President’s Report – March 2026
Dear Members,
Welcome to the March newsletter.
With the most challenging stretch of the year now behind us, there is every reason to look ahead to longer days and stronger trading. The opening months have been demanding, particularly with the increase in labour costs. Encouragingly, tourism figures have started the year on a strong footing, with inbound visitor numbers up 27% compared with January 2025. We are hopeful this momentum will continue in the months ahead, particularly as greater emphasis is placed on culinary tourism. This Friday, we will meet with Tourism Ireland to discuss how Ireland’s food offering can be better showcased internationally.
In February, I participated in a panel discussion at the Hospitality Expo in the RDS which focused on the growing role of culinary tourism. I highlighted the work undertaken by the Association to ensure this area regains the attention it deserves. While cost pressures remain significant, there are also real opportunities and this is one we will continue to advance as an organisation and in my capacity as President of the Restaurants Association of Ireland.
Tomorrow marks the first of our Regional Finals for the Irish Restaurant Awards. We look forward to recognising the quality, innovation and professionalism that define Ireland’s hospitality sector. Celebrating excellence at county and regional level strengthens a food culture that attracts visitors, supports local producers and sustains employment across the country.
I wish you every success for the weeks ahead and hope March is both busy and rewarding for you and your teams.
Yours sincerely,
Seán Collender,
President
