President’s Report – June 2026

Dear Members,

Welcome to your June newsletter.

As we begin to enjoy some better weather, let us hope it continues throughout the summer and brings a positive trading period for businesses across the country.

The next newsletter you receive from the Restaurants Association of Ireland will come after the restoration of the 9% VAT rate on July 1st, a significant achievement and one that we fought incredibly hard to secure. This measure will provide much needed relief for food businesses nationwide, saving businesses an average of over €40,000 per year.

But our work does not stop here. Last week, we submitted our Pre-Budget Submission to Government ahead of Budget 2027, setting out the further measures needed to support restaurants, cafés and gastropubs across Ireland. While the return of the 9% VAT rate and the renewed focus on culinary tourism represent major progress, labour costs and the cumulative impact of rising business expenses continue to place enormous pressure on businesses. We will continue to champion your interests and fight for the policies and supports needed to help the sector remain viable, competitive and sustainable.

Last month, we held the All-Ireland Restaurant Awards, which was a fantastic celebration of the outstanding businesses and individuals who contribute so much to our sector. Congratulations to all of the winners at both the regional and national awards and indeed to everyone who was nominated. Your achievements are a testament to the passion, dedication and hard work that define Ireland’s restaurant industry.

As always, if we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the team, who will be happy to help. Together, we are stronger.

Yours sincerely,

Yours sincerely,
Seán Collender
President
